The ferry ride to and from San Juan Island is an integral part of living on the island. The ferry weaves its way and the views changes like those in a movie. Here one can see Mt. Baker at sunrise.

The town of Friday Harbor has approximately 2,000 residents. Another 3-4,000 residents live "out of town" elsewhere on San Juan Island. The town features grocery stores, restaurants, a fine medical center & clinic, a well-staffed performing arts center, a court house & county offices, a movie theater, a drug store, bowling alley, and churches. There are no stoplights on San Juan Island, nor on any of the neighboring islands.
