Above is a birds-eye view of the Northwest Corner of the Continental U.S.-where the U.S., Canada, and the Pacific Ocean meet. The San Juan Islands sit quietly at the intersection, surrounded on all sides by the sea and mountain ranges. Seattle is at the bottom, right of the picture along the edge of Puget Sound. In the center, bottom, is the beautiful, Olympic Range of mountains, stretching up to 9,000 feet. On the left is the edge of the Pacific. The bold, zigzagging, yellow line is the Canadian-U.S. border. In the very center of the picture is Victoria, B.C., the first British city in North America. Six miles across Haro Strait from Victoria is San Juan Island, at the tip of the large red arrow. Directly north of San Juan Island is the bustling city of Vancouver, B.C., the western gateway to Canada and the base of the upcoming 2010 Olympics (at Whistler Ski Area). Like the Olympic Range, the Cascade Range of mountains, on the right side of the picture, is visible from San Juan Island, most strikingly Mt. Baker at over 14,000 feet.

San Juan Island is roughly 10 miles wide and 16 miles long. The town of Friday Harbor (top right) is the county seat of San Juan County, which includes four major islands: San Juan, Orcas, Lopez, and Shaw. These four are served by ferry from the city of Anacortes on the U.S. Mainland. The ferry also runs on to Victoria B.C. The 11-acre property is located on the south slope of Little Mountain at the green arrow, about six miles from Friday Harbor.
